The Gaslight Anthem: 45

I’m not sure why I remember this band, or how I ended up hearing this song. I don’t listen to the radio very often, but this was one of those songs I caught as I was driving on one of those random nights that you get stuck in godawful traffic. I’m not sure what it is about this particular song I find interesting — maybe it’s the gravelly vocals and the upbeat tempo, despite the depressing subject matter (re: read the lyrics).

Short post, but I’m sure once you listen to it, you’ll understand how this could be a latenight song, or a drive-down-the-highway song. I’d listen to this on a dirt road, or even on a mucky sunny day.

Scene? It’s the cusp of summer’s end, and you’ve just gone through some tumultuous break-up of some sort. Or worse, you and your friends just ran into your ex and all the memories you put into that tiny box in your head, they explode all over your prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. But wait — there’s an upside to this scene. You walk away a little bruised and worn for wear, but you’re ok. Because that’s just how the world works. End scene.
