Although Gdansk is a Polish city, the band Gdansk hails from Hamilton, Ontario. The Canadian indie/ambient/pop/whatever the multi-instrumental term is-band has a smooth sound that I might exclusively play at night. There’s something about the ethereal generated electronica in the back, mixed with strings, that makes me think of a quaint night at a pub or something like it.
The first song I heard was off their EP. The one song that makes me think of summer, a star-studded night sky and a cup of (spiked) sweet tea is Adam’s Needle. And with a name like that, you can’t help but wonder what kind of band they are. So you listen, like I did, and find yourself somewhat mesmerized. And then you download their EP for free, or buy it if you want to support the band.
I’ve already said it sounds like a nighttime song. It’s up to you to figure out what’s going on in their heads, and what they’ve done to yours.
For any of you interested in seeing them — and a bunch of local Canadian music talent — it’s Canadian Music Week from March 19-24. Around 1000 artists, 60 venues and 6 nights worth of music. Grab a ticket for a particular show, or snag a deal for a $60 wristband that gets you into essentially everything offered (or, if you’re feeling up for it, a $120 VIP wristband that gets you into the INDIES Music Awards).
